Dr. Donald Aguillard has dedicated his life to public education. He began his career as a teacher at Acadiana High in December 1975. Dr. A moved into administration in August 1986 as the Acadiana High assistant principal. From 1998 to 2000, he served as the Lafayette Parish School System’s director of management information systems. He returned to a school campus in July 2000 as the principal of Carencro High. Three years later, he was named area director for the Lafayette Parish School System.
In April 2004, Dr. A began an 11-year term as the school superintendent in St. Mary Parish. In May 2015, he returned to Lafayette Parish to serve as the superintendent until May 2019. As a superintendent, Dr. A has led successful initiatives to build and renovate school facilities, improve academic outcomes for all students, upgrade technology in classrooms and ensure that districts operate in a fiscally responsible manner.
Dr. A is ready to continue that momentum as the District 9 representative on the Lafayette Parish School Board. District 9 includes some of the fastest-growing areas of the state – South Lafayette Parish, including portions of the Milton, Youngsville and Broussard communities. It will require a board member who is dedicated to sustaining that educational investment while also making sure schools are meeting student needs across all of Lafayette Parish. This elective office is a part-time job, but Dr. A is committed to making it his full-time responsibility.
